The Department of Air Transport currently focuses on 6 main research domains, listed below. These domains cover the whole spectrum of air transport in all its operational aspects. This way, the Department focuses its attention on applied research aiming to develop and provide results for the end-user in practice. Custom-tailored production solutions are created by finalizing these results in air transport organizations and companies. These custom-tailored solutions outmatch commonly accessible products on the market.
Aviation safety is one of the current challenges not only in air transport operations but in research as well. For decades, aviation has tried to reduce the number of accidents and thus achieve greater interest in this type of transport. Despite the undeniable success in this area, modern times pose entirely new challenges for air transport that have no parallel in history. Globalization and the integration of air transport operations, both socially and technically, have created a highly complex system in which imperfections and problem phenomena spread and combine much more easily than ever before. Solving such problems requires active cooperation of all participants of the air transport industry and technical tools to help identify, record, and share knowledge about the origin and behavior of problems that can cause aviation accidents. The Aviation Safety and Security Laboratory of the Department of Air Transport deals with creating such tools for all types of aviation organizations.
