Topics of final theses are accessible in the Management System for Final Theses Assignments or after a consultation with Project Manager.
Within the project we cooperate with following partners.
Would you like to take a closer look at the operations of the international airport? Would you like to be actively involved in strategic airport infrastructure development projects? Would you like to take part in solving logistics and optimization issues within airports? Would you like to try working with airport operations experts? If your answered “yes” to at least one of these questions, we recommend choosing the Modern Trends and Development at the Airports project.
In this project, you will gain information and knowledge in the field of airport operations. You will use the acquired knowledge as a basis for solving complex operational-infrastructural problems of real airports and prepare studies focused on new technologies, processes, and constructions. Solutions for the configuration of airport operations areas or the optimization of complex processes such as technical handling or the operations of airport technology are examples of specific tasks that you will solve within this project. You will present the obtained knowledge and results as an output of your final thesis.
The airport is a dynamic environment and therefore needs creative-thinking people who will continue to advance the development of technology and create suitable conditions for smooth operations. The initiative itself is a great benefit and is evaluated very positively within this project. If you want to develop your ideas and thoughts further, the team of supervisors will actively assist you. The project supervisors are mostly experts actively working at the airport.
The project „Modern Trends and Development of the Airports” is thematically focused on the following areas:
Within these areas, students have the opportunity to work on current topics that are created in collaboration between the university and the subjects from the aviation industry. Some of the project mentors are employees of the leading aviation industry companies.
The project starts with the discussions on the selected topics, which are jointly formulated by students and mentors during the first meetings. Students within the project work in groups, typically of 3-4 students, according to the chosen topic and under the guidance of the mentors. Students work on this chosen topic throughout their Bachelor’s or Master’s studies in order to define and analyse the identified problem and then propose an appropriate solution. Important outputs of their work on the project are the assignments of their final thesis, and at a later stage, the final bachelor’s or master’s thesis.
The PBL takes place every week on the Department of Air Transport premises in the Horská building or according to an agreement with a project’s mentor. The students are working on the projects at least for 90 minutes per week during the semester.
Integration of knowledge from safety studies with operational safety data
Enhanced diversion airport selection methodology
Airport operations and development with a focus on airport infrastructure and operational procedures in airside, especially on aprons
Development of airport infrastructure, especially area of runway and taxiways
Issues of capacity and simulations of permeability on runway and taxiways
Airport performance management
Aircraft ground handling
Simulation and optimization of airport processes
The Modern Trends and Development of the Airports project cooperates with Aviation Safety and Security project, the Human Factors in Aviation project and with Lambda lab. An example is a cooperation where students of the Modern Trends and Development of the Airports project develop proposals for infrastructural changes and students from the Aviation Safety and Security project assess these changes from the safety point of view. The creation of interproject teams depends on the chosen topics. Such teams can be designed to address topics that cannot be solved within just one project.
The project „Modern Trends and Development of the Airports” is linked to the airport research team, whose members are academics, experts in the field of airport operation and development and PhD students studying at CTU.
